CELEBRITY HAIRSTYLING TRENDS: BALAYAGE

One of the hottest celebrity hairstyling trends right now is the Balayage, known by it’s common name, the two-tone hairstyle or as ombre, a moniker borrowed from the fashion term for a graduated color from dark to light. In layman’s terms, the hairstyle embraces the visible root, so instead of racing to the salon to touch up your roots, with the ombre hairstyle, we flaunt those roots. The hairstyling term, Balayage, which emerged in Paris in the 1970′s and is French for “to sweep” is a coloring technique which results in a more natural, sun-bleached look. The highlights are painted on the hair by hand and in a sweeping motion from the base to the top of the hair. The color is applied heavier at the tip to produce a hairstyle that looks like you’ve spent a decadent summer on the French Rivera…..and who doesn’t want that??

Popularized by Sarah Jessica Parker as the iconic Carrie Bradshaw, in Sex and the City, this ombre hairstyle has been spotted by fashionistas all summer long!

Celebs, like Drew Barrymore, Alexa Chung and Rachel Bilson, have embraced this youthful, fun style. With fall looming in the rear-view mirrors, this ombre or Balayage hairstyle great way to hang on to summer or at the least the look of summer for a little bit longer. One way to achieve this gorgeous hairstyle rocked by Drew Barrymore is to let your actual roots grow out while you idly drink lemonade in Cannes, but if the closest you get to the French Rivera is drinking a can of lemonade while you stare at the Au Bon Pain out your office window, then take a stroll down to your salon for some expert help. We must advise that the effortless cool of the ombre, requires some serious skills, so when chatting with your stylist, make sure they are well-versed in Balayage…we recommend our great friend Lucio, at Prive Salon, located at 310 West Browadway, NY, NY 212-274-8888. Lucio, one of the best in the biz, is a true genius at Balayage!
